Big Jon Platt Scholarship
The Big Jon Platt scholarship program was created by music industry mogul and Montbello High School alumnus Big Jon Platt to promote educational excellence of high school students in the community of Montbello.
Eligibility:
Students who meet ALL of the following criteria are encouraged to apply.
- Graduate from Denver Center for International Studies (DCIS) at Montbello or Noel Community Arts School in December 2019 or May 2020
- Have an unweighted cumulative GPA of at least 2.5
- Active in school and the larger Montbello community
- Have financial need
- Planning to attend an accredited community college, 4-year college or university in the United States for part-time or full-time study in the fall of 2020
Students who have demonstrated excellence in musical artistry, either in writing, producing, or performing music or have overcome adversity (personal, academic, or social) throughout their high school career are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.
Selection: Recipients will be selected based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities and leadership, references, financial need, and commitment to both their school and the larger Montbello community. Students who are looking to
Award: Students from Denver Center for International Studies at Montbello and/or Noel Community Arts School will be selected to receive a scholarship through a competitive process. Scholarship awards will be paid directly to the recipient’s school and can be used toward tuition, fees, and other qualified educational expenses. This is a one-time award and must be used for the 2020-2021 academic year. Award disbursement is contingent upon the financial aid and scholarship acceptance polices of a recipient’s school.

Be sure to list your roles and responsibilities (if applicable) with each opportunity listed and include your length of time of participation (i.e. Boy Scouts of America, January 2012-present; National Honor Society, March 2014 - May 2016).

- Discuss your future plans in relation to your education. What do you plan to study? Why did you choose this field? How do you hope to use what you learn in college in the future?
- In a brief essay, please share with the committee any relevant financial considerations and the impact this scholarship will have on you pursuing your education. Also, include any other sources of financial support you anticipate receiving outside of your school's financial aid package (i.e. outside scholarships, parent or other family members' assistance). If there are any factors that may limit your ability to pay for your educational expenses, please include that information.
- Is there anything else that you feel is important for the Selection Committee to know about you? (Limit to 300 words.)
- Reference Request 1: Please request a reference from a current teacher, coach, community leader, mentor or student/club advisor who knows you well. Your reference will be asked to describe your character, your overall motivation, and your commitment to your school and larger Montbello community. This process is initiated by you, the applicant, from within the online application. You are responsible for ensuring that your reference completes this request prior to the scholarship application deadline. Insert the name and email address of your reference into the fields provided. Immediately when you save your application, a secure link with specific reference questions will be sent to your reference. This needs to be done in ADVANCE of submitting your application. The deadline for references is the same as your scholarship application deadline.
